Why Choose Indonesian Graphic Designers?

What Indonesia's designers are genuinely good at.

🎓

Formally Trained

Bandung and Yogyakarta host Indonesia's oldest art and design faculties, and Bandung is a UNESCO Creative City of Design.

🛒

Marketplace & Social Native

Commerce here runs through Tokopedia, Shopee, Lazada and TikTok, so designers produce listing thumbnails, promo banners and 9:16 vertical frames weekly.

🔤

No Script or Font Barriers

Bahasa Indonesia uses the Latin alphabet, so any typeface you licence sets your designer's own language. No fallback fonts, no vertical typesetting, no bidirectional text.

🕒

Useful European Overlap

Most Zinners work in WIB (UTC+7). A 09:00 London start is mid-afternoon in Jakarta, giving an hour or two of live overlap plus revisions delivered while you sleep.

ID- and Skill-Verified

Every Indonesian Zinner is identity-checked and skill-assessed, and reviews come only from confirmed purchases, so ratings sit on real orders.

🛡️

Escrow, No Buyer Fee

Your USD payment is held in escrow and released only when you confirm the design meets the brief. Buyers pay no platform fee on top.

The Complete Guide to Hiring Indonesian Graphic Designers

Where the talent is, how language and time zones work, and how to judge the result.

Where Indonesia's Design Talent Actually Sits

Indonesia is several design markets, and the city a Zinner works from tells you a lot. Bandung is the centre of gravity: a UNESCO Creative City of Design since 2015, home to one of the country's oldest art and design faculties and to an independent clothing and screen-printing scene fluent in illustration-led branding. Yogyakarta is the fine-art city and the deepest pool of illustrators, hand-letterers and printmakers. Jakarta holds the agencies, banks and funded startups, so its Zinners are strongest on corporate identity systems and decks. Surabaya and Semarang carry commercial print and FMCG packaging; Bali serves foreign clients daily, specialises in hospitality branding, and sits at the top of the local rate band. Start from the discipline: browse Graphics & Design and check each Zinner's stated location on their profile.

Language, Script and the Details That Catch People Out

Bahasa Indonesia uses the Latin alphabet, which removes a whole class of problem you would meet hiring in Japan, Korea or the Arab world: any typeface you licence sets your designer's own language without a fallback font, and there is no vertical typesetting or bidirectional text. Javanese, Sundanese and Balinese are spoken at home, but design work runs in Indonesian and, with foreign clients, English. Written English is common among designers already serving overseas clients; spoken fluency varies far more, so brief in short, literal English and replace idiom ("make it pop") with instructions somebody can act on. If live calls matter, say so before you order.

Two typographic details belong in any brief carrying numbers or Indonesian text. Indonesian number formatting swaps the full stop and the comma relative to British convention: the full stop groups thousands and the comma marks the decimal, so a price list or infographic can come back perfectly set for Jakarta and wrong for London. And Indonesian words run longer than their English equivalents, so a panel that fits in English overflows once set in Indonesian; ask for it to be tested against the longest string, as you would with Indonesian content writing.

Search, Social and Marketplaces: What the Work Actually Is

Google is the dominant search engine in Indonesia, so search-led design follows familiar rules and pairs naturally with Indonesian SEO services. Discovery, though, happens elsewhere: TikTok and Instagram audiences here are very large, and commerce runs through Tokopedia, Shopee, Lazada and Bukalapak rather than independent web shops. A working Indonesian designer therefore spends more of the week on square marketplace thumbnails, in-app banners cut to a platform's exact pixel spec, vertical 9:16 frames and catalogue images built to survive WhatsApp compression than on anything printed, and habitually checks how a design reads compressed on a mid-range Android phone. Browse social media design, or pair the graphics with Indonesian video editors. If your brief is print-first, say so and check for genuine packaging and label work with bleed, trim marks and spot colours.

Time Zones and How Much Overlap You Get

Indonesia spans three zones: WIB (UTC+7) for Java and Sumatra (Jakarta, Bandung, Yogyakarta, Surabaya); WITA (UTC+8) for Bali, Lombok and Makassar; WIT (UTC+9) for Maluku and Papua. Most Zinners are in WIB. A 09:00 London start is mid-afternoon in Jakarta, so expect an hour or two of genuine live overlap at the start of your day, a little more from mainland Europe, plus revisions delivered overnight. The US East Coast gap is eleven or twelve hours, so plan one clean cycle per day. Singapore shares the WITA clock, so that overlap is near-total; Sydney is three or four hours ahead of Jakarta and shares about half a working day.

Two calendar items matter. Idul Fitri, at the end of Ramadan, triggers mudik, the mass return to home towns, and pauses commercial work for a week or more; its date moves back about eleven days each year. And if your designer is in Bali, Nyepi, the Day of Silence, shuts the island down for twenty-four hours with mobile internet suspended island-wide, so nothing is delivered or answered that day.

What a Good Design Brief Contains

Start with the decision the design has to serve, not the artefact: "a logo" is a request; "a mark that must emboss on a 40mm coffee lid and stay legible as a 32px app icon" is a brief. State the exact output specifications: pixel dimensions or physical trim size, bleed, safe area, every platform the asset must fit. Name the colour space too, CMYK with a named stock for print or RGB for screen.

Set out licence and usage scope up front: trademark registration, print at scale, resale as a template, because it changes the price and what has to be cleared. Ask in writing which typefaces are used and under what licence: a personal-use-only font on a registered trademark is a legal problem you inherit, not a saving. Request the editable source files in the order itself, agree what counts as a revision rather than a new direction, and give three references you like and two you dislike. Posting a project is free if you would rather have Zinners bid.

How to Judge the Work Before You Order

Read portfolios for systems, not showpieces. A mark shown as a lock-up, a one-colour version, a favicon and an application on packaging proves someone can think in identities. Run the two-minute tests: shrink the logo to thumbnail size to see whether it still reads, then view it in flat black to see whether it survives without colour. Look hard at typography: even kerning, consistent optical alignment, few families, no stretched or artificially bolded type. Reverse-image-search two portfolio pieces: template and stock reuse is the main risk at the low end of any marketplace. Then buy a small Micro Zinn as a paid test before committing to a full logo design or brand style guide.

Software, File Formats and the CorelDRAW Question

Most Indonesian designers use the standard toolchain — Adobe Illustrator for vector, Photoshop for raster, InDesign for editorial, Figma for interface work. Canva is widespread here for fast social output and fine for templated feed graphics, but wrong for a mark you intend to trademark. The local wrinkle is CorelDRAW, which has a long and still-living history in Indonesian commercial print and sablon (screen-printing) shops, so a print-oriented designer may work natively in CDR. That is fine, but CDR is awkward to open outside Corel, so specify deliverables: AI or SVG vector artwork, EPS, transparent PNG, a print-ready PDF with text outlined, plus a live-text editable file. If your only surviving logo is a low-resolution image, vector tracing is a sensible first order, and the logo design cost guide sets out the wider variables.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about hiring designers in Indonesia.

Indonesia has a deep, formally trained design workforce concentrated in Bandung, Yogyakarta, Jakarta, Surabaya and Bali. Because social and marketplace commerce is such a large part of the economy, its designers are unusually strong on listing imagery, promo banners, vertical formats and packaging, and they work in the Latin alphabet.

Written English is common among Indonesian designers who already work with overseas clients, while spoken fluency varies far more. Brief and give feedback in short, literal written English, avoiding idioms such as make it pop. If you need live video calls, say so before you order, because many prefer to work asynchronously.

Indonesia spans three zones: WIB at UTC+7 covering Jakarta, Bandung, Yogyakarta and Surabaya, WITA at UTC+8 covering Bali and Makassar, and WIT at UTC+9 covering Maluku and Papua. Most Zinners are in WIB, so London clients get roughly one to two hours of live overlap at the start of their day, Singapore and Perth clients get almost a full shared day and Sydney about half of one, and US East Coast clients should plan one delivery cycle per day.

Typical marketplace ranges are roughly $5 to $20 for a Micro Zinn task, $30 to $400 for a logo or compact brand identity, and $400 to $1,500 or more for a full identity system with packaging and guidelines. These are observed ranges, not a Zinn Hub guarantee; every Zinn is priced in USD by the Zinner.

Ask for editable source files plus flattened outputs, named in the order rather than afterwards. For a logo that means AI or SVG vector artwork, EPS, transparent PNG at several sizes, and a print-ready PDF with text converted to outlines. Some Indonesian print and screen printing designers work natively in CorelDRAW, so state that CDR alone is not acceptable.

Yes. Zinn Hub holds your payment in escrow and releases it only once the work is delivered and you confirm it meets the agreed brief. If an order is refunded, the funds return to your Zinn Wallet. Buyers pay no platform fee and every Zinner is ID- and skill-verified.
