Adobe Premiere Pro is still the default professional timeline in Indonesia, with After Effects for titles, and DaVinci Resolve has grown fast because a capable version is free — it is now common among Indonesian colourists doing colour grading. CapCut is everywhere in short-form, and it is where buyers get caught: its templates, effects, stock and music carry terms that do not automatically extend to a paying client's advertisement, and a template-driven edit can be impossible to revise elsewhere. For commercial work, specify a Premiere or Resolve deliverable and ask which assets are licensed and under whose licence. An upload labelled no-copyright is not a music licence. State in the brief that the project file and sourced assets ship with the exports.

What a Good Video Editing Brief Contains

A brief that produces a usable first cut contains eight things: deliverables and specs — every aspect ratio (9:16, 1:1, 16:9), resolution, frame rate, codec, maximum duration and where each version is published; two or three timestamped references, each with a sentence on what to take from it; a footage inventory — total size, camera, codec, clip count, whether separate audio needs syncing; a brand kit of logo, fonts, colour values, any LUT, lower-third style, intro and outro; a caption spec — language, burned in or SRT, position allowing for platform overlays, literal or punchy; music and sound, naming the licensed library and who pays; revisions, how many rounds and what counts as one; and a deadline per deliverable rather than per batch, plus file naming and destination.

Judging Quality Before You Commit

Showreels flatter everybody. Ask for two or three complete videos of the type you need, and watch them as the audience will: on a phone, at normal volume, all the way through. Audio is where cheap edits fail first — uneven levels between speakers, music that does not duck under dialogue, an untreated noise floor. Captions running a few frames late throughout were auto-generated and never checked, and text under the platform's own buttons was never tested on a device.
