UK law requires Zinn Hub to collect a few tax details from every seller who earns on the platform, and to report them to HMRC once a year. This guide explains what we need, why we need it, and what happens if we do not have it.
Add or update your details here: https://zinnhub.com/dashboard/zinner/tax-details/
Why we have to ask
Zinn Hub is a digital platform under the UK's reporting rules for platform operators (often called DAC7). Those rules require us to collect and verify certain details about every seller who earns money through the platform, and to report them to HM Revenue & Customs once a year.
This is a legal obligation on us, not a judgement about you. Every seller who earns is asked, and it says nothing about your account standing, your ratings or your Verified Seller status.
What we ask for
It takes about two minutes and you only do it once.
If you sell as an individual
- Your full legal name — the name on your ID, not your store name
- Your date of birth
- Your taxpayer identification number, and the country that issued it
- The country you are tax resident in
- Your address
If you sell as a business
- Your registered business name
- Your company registration number and the country of registration
- Your taxpayer identification number, and the country that issued it
- The country the business is tax resident in
- Your registered address
Your legal name is not your store name
This is the single most common thing people get wrong. Your store name might be Bright Design Studio, but the name we have to report is the one on your identity document. Please enter your real legal name, exactly as it appears on your ID or your company registration.
What is a taxpayer identification number?
It is the number your own country's tax authority uses to identify you. It goes by a different name almost everywhere:
- United Kingdom — your Unique Taxpayer Reference (UTR) or National Insurance number
- Nigeria — your Tax Identification Number (TIN) from the FIRS
- Philippines — your TIN from the BIR
- India — your PAN
- Kenya — your KRA PIN
- Pakistan — your NTN, or your CNIC number
- South Africa — your SARS tax reference number
- United States — your SSN, ITIN or EIN
If your country is not listed, enter the equivalent number your tax authority issues you. If you are not sure which number that is, your national tax authority's website will tell you.
When you need to do it
We ask you the first time you earn on the platform, and we remind you at 7, 14 and 21 days.
If it is still not complete after 21 days, your payouts are paused until it is. Your money is not taken and nothing is forfeited — your earnings stay exactly where they are, and the pause lifts by itself the moment you complete the form. Usually within minutes.
The dashboard prompt shows you your own deadline date, so you always know how long you have.
What happens after you submit
Most records go straight through and you will see a confirmation that nothing more is needed.
Occasionally we cannot recognise the format of a tax number for a particular country, so a member of our team checks it by hand. This does not pause your payouts and there is nothing more for you to do — we will only contact you if something genuinely needs correcting, and if we do, we will tell you exactly what.
What we report, and when
Once a year we report the details you gave us, together with the total credited to your Zinn account for that year, to HM Revenue & Customs.
You will be sent your own copy of exactly what we report about you by 31 January. Nothing is reported about you that you have not been shown.
Can I change my details later?
Yes. The form stays open and you can update it at any time — if you move, change your business structure, or spot a mistake. We keep a record of what you previously gave us, because what we report has to match what we held at the time, but the current version is always the one you last saved.
How your details are kept
Your tax number, date of birth and address are stored securely and are only ever visible to the small number of staff who need them for reporting. Access is recorded. They are never shown in your public profile, never shared with buyers, and never used for anything other than the reporting obligation described here.
Still not sure?
If you are unsure what to enter, or your situation does not fit either option, open a support ticket and we will help. Please do not guess — an incorrect tax number is harder to fix after it has been reported than before.
