VAT on Zinn Hub

From 1 October 2026 Zinn Hub is registered for UK VAT. This guide explains what changes, who it affects, and — for most people — why it does not change what you pay or what you earn.

The short version

  • Buying a service from a seller on Zinn Hub? Nothing changes. The price you see is the price you pay.
  • Selling on Zinn Hub? VAT applies to the Zinn Hub commission, not to your service.
  • Buying something Zinn Hub sells directly (memberships, credits, our own services)? VAT may be added at checkout depending on where you are.

Why we are registering

Zinn Hub has reached the point where UK VAT registration is required. Our UK VAT number is GB 526 5236 92, effective 1 October 2026. We are also registered for the EU One Stop Shop (OSS) under EU372102110, which is how VAT on sales to EU consumers is declared.

If you are a buyer

Buying a service from a seller. When you buy a Zinn from a seller, you are buying from that seller — Zinn Hub is acting as the marketplace, not as the supplier. The price you see is the price you pay, and no VAT is added on top by us.

Buying something Zinn Hub supplies itself. A small number of things are sold by Zinn Hub directly rather than by a seller — memberships, Image Credits, Call Credits and our own listed services. For those, VAT is added at checkout based on where you are:

  • United Kingdom — 20% VAT
  • European Union — your own country's rate, declared through OSS
  • Rest of the world — no VAT

You will always see the VAT before you confirm, and it appears on your invoice.

Business customers in the EU. If you give us a valid EU VAT number, the supply is reverse-charged and we do not add VAT. Add your VAT number in your account settings before you buy — we verify it against the EU's VIES service.

If you are a seller

Your own service is not affected. You supply your service to your buyer. Whether you need to charge VAT on it is between you and your own tax authority, and depends on your own circumstances and turnover. Zinn Hub does not add VAT to your service and does not collect VAT on it for you.

VAT applies to our commission. The commission Zinn Hub charges you is a service we supply to you, and from 1 October that service carries VAT where it is due:

  • UK sellers — 20% VAT on the commission
  • EU sellers — no VAT charged if you give us a valid EU VAT number (reverse charge); otherwise your country's consumer rate
  • Rest of the world — no VAT on the commission

If you are VAT registered, add your VAT number in your account settings. It is worth doing: for an EU business it removes the VAT from your commission entirely, and for a UK business it is what lets you reclaim it.

Wallet credit

Adding credit to your Zinn Wallet does not carry VAT at the point you top up, because at that moment we do not yet know what you will spend it on. VAT is worked out when you actually spend it, on whatever you buy.

Image Credits and Call Credits work differently — those can only be spent on one thing, so VAT is applied when you buy them.

Invoices

Every purchase that carries VAT gets a proper VAT invoice showing our VAT number, the rate applied and the VAT amount, available from your dashboard. If you are VAT registered, that is the document you need for your own return.

What if I am charged the wrong amount?

VAT is worked out from your billing country, so the most common cause is an out-of-date address. Check your billing details first, and if it still looks wrong, open a support ticket with the order number and we will look at it.

This is not tax advice

This page explains what Zinn Hub does. It is not advice about your own tax position — whether you need to register for VAT, what you can reclaim, or how to treat your Zinn Hub earnings is a question for your own accountant or tax authority.

Related: if you sell on Zinn Hub, you will also be asked for your tax details for HMRC reporting. That is a separate requirement — see Your Tax Details and HMRC Reporting.
