What should I specify before commissioning a browser extension?

Name the browsers you must support, the sites the extension will act on, and exactly what it should do on each. Say whether it needs user accounts, whether data leaves the browser, and whether it must work offline. Also decide whether it will be published publicly, listed privately, or distributed inside an organisation, because that changes the review requirements and the build.

How is browser extension development priced on Zinn Hub?

Each Zinner sets and shows their own price in USD on the listing, so you can compare before ordering. Cost is driven mainly by the number of browsers supported, whether a backend and user accounts are involved, and how much page-specific logic the extension needs. Buyers pay no platform fee on top of the listed price, and posting a project brief for a larger build is free.

Will one extension work in Chrome, Edge and Firefox?

Largely, but not automatically. Chrome and Edge share the same underlying platform, so a single build usually covers both. Firefox uses a compatible but not identical extension API, so some code and packaging differences remain, and each store has its own submission and review process. Agree with the Zinner which browsers are in scope from the start, since retrofitting a second browser afterwards is more work than including it.

How do the store review processes affect my timeline?

Publishing is not instant. Each browser store reviews submissions, and the time taken is set by the store, not by your developer. Extensions requesting broad permissions or handling user data typically attract closer scrutiny and may come back with questions. Plan for at least one round of clarification, ask the Zinner to write clear permission justifications, and avoid requesting any permission the extension does not genuinely need.

What permissions should my extension request?

As few as possible. Broad host permissions make review slower and make users more hesitant to install. A good developer will scope permissions to the specific sites and capabilities required, use optional permissions requested at the moment they are needed, and explain each one in the listing. Ask the Zinner to justify every permission in the manifest during handover so you can defend the list if asked.

Who owns the extension and its store listing?

Publish under your own developer account so the listing, user base and any revenue remain yours, and add the Zinner as a collaborator for submission. Agree code ownership in writing before work starts, and ask for the full source, build instructions and dependencies at handover. Without the source, future maintenance is locked to one developer, which is a poor position for a product you rely on.
