Yes, usually I can. Sometimes if it's a highly technical document I may need to ask you a question about it if some of the language used doesn't make sense. The best thing to do is to send me a copy so I can review it and see what a fair gig offer is to edit it for you.
When I edit I'm usually correcting an awkward sentence. I don't offer to rewrite through this gig as a rewrite can be a mammoth undertaking. The other thing about rewriting is that the document will have my voice and no longer have yours.

Proofreading is all about checking that spelling and grammar are correct. Copy editing is more checking that the right words in context are used, and punctuation is correct. Line editing looks at how the language is used at the sentence and paragraph level and checking the flow of sentences.
