Yes and no. I can improve volume consistency issues and can even get rid of an annoying beeping noise in the background. What I can't fix is extremely muffled, distorted, or echoey audio. I can't majorly improve audio that was recorded using built-in laptop mics in a loud room.
I'm a big fan and have used Adobe Audition since 2017. To reduce background noise, I use an additional and pretty pricey plug-in called iZotope De-Noise.
I deliver podcast episodes as ready-to-publish MP3 files that are -19 LUFS and even in volume throughout. This means listeners won't have to turn their volume up or down throughout the episode
