China content writing means having your copy written or transcreated in Chinese by a native writer, in Simplified characters for mainland China or Traditional characters for Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau. It covers WeChat official account articles, Xiaohongshu notes, Zhihu answers, product descriptions and full website localisation. On Zinn Hub the work is delivered by ID and skill verified Zinners whose reviews come only from confirmed purchases. Chinese is quoted per character rather than per word, so agree the counting unit before you order. Payment is held in escrow and released only when you approve the copy, charged in USD, with 100+ payment options including card, PayPal and cryptocurrency.

Why Hire a Native Chinese Writer?

What changes when copy is written in Chinese, not converted into it.

🈶

The Right Character Set

Simplified for mainland China and Singapore, Traditional for Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau. A native writer picks the variant and the regional vocabulary that goes with it, not a one-click conversion that leaves the wording wrong.

🎯

Transcreation, Not Word Swaps

Headlines, slogans and calls to action rarely survive literal translation. A Chinese copywriter rewrites from your brief so the promise still lands, then tells you where the English idea does not transfer.

📱

Platform-Native Formats

A WeChat article, a Xiaohongshu note, a Zhihu answer and a Baidu Baike entry are four different shapes of writing. Writers who publish in these formats weekly get length, structure and tone right first time.

🔎

Checkable Quality

You do not have to take the copy on trust. Order a back-translation, add an independent native reviewer, and screen for machine-translation artefacts before anything is published.

Doğrulanmış Zinners

Every Zinner offering Chinese writing is ID and skill verified before their listing goes live, and the ratings you read come only from confirmed purchases.

🛡️

Emanet Koruması

Payment is held securely until the copy is delivered and you confirm it meets the brief. No platform fee for buyers, 100+ payment options, everything charged in USD.

The Practical Guide to Chinese Content Writing

Six decisions that separate trusted Chinese copy from copy that reads as translated.

1. Simplified or Traditional: Choose by Market, Not by Character Set

Simplified Chinese is the written standard in mainland China and Singapore. Traditional Chinese is the standard in Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau. That is where most briefs stop, which is exactly why so much Chinese web copy reads as imported. The character set is only the surface of the difference.

Underneath it sit genuinely different vocabularies. Software, marketing and everyday product terms diverge between mainland and Taiwan usage, and Hong Kong copy carries a register shaped by Cantonese speech habits. Run a Simplified file through a character converter and you get Traditional characters carrying mainland word choices — technically readable, immediately foreign to a Taipei or Hong Kong reader. Treat each variant as its own piece of writing, briefed to a writer in that market.

Write the decision into the brief: which market is primary, and whether a second variant is coming later. Zinners declare their variant explicitly, so you can filter by simplified Chinese or traditional Chinese rather than hoping the right one arrives.

2. Transcreation Beats Translation for Anything Meant to Sell

Translation carries meaning across. Transcreation rewrites the idea from a creative brief so it works natively — different words, different structure, same commercial intent. The distinction matters more in Chinese than in most language pairs, because English marketing leans on wordplay and cultural reference with no equivalent form in Chinese, while Chinese copy leans on four-character idioms, rhythm and parallel construction with no equivalent in English.

The practical rule is by document type. Manuals, specifications, terms and support articles should be translated — accuracy is the whole job, and invention is a defect. Slogans, ad copy, landing pages, email subject lines, social captions and brand stories should be transcreated. Give the transcreation writer the strategy, not only the string: what the product does, who it is for, what the English was meant to make the reader feel, and which claims are legally fixed. Ask them to flag anything that does not transfer — a good copywriter will say a pun is unrecoverable rather than ship a flat literal version.

3. Write for the Platform: WeChat, Xiaohongshu, Zhihu, Baike and Baijiahao

Chinese content is consumed inside platforms with strong native formats, and a piece written for the wrong one is obvious on sight.

WeChat official account articles are the long-form workhorse: a single vertical scroll, images between short paragraphs, a strong opening hook because there is no headline preview to earn the click twice, and a closing call to follow or share. Xiaohongshu notes are the opposite — short, first person, lifestyle framed, written as personal experience rather than brand announcement, with tags carrying much of the discovery weight. Zhihu answers reward length and reasoning: readers expect structure, evidence and a visible expert identity, and overtly promotional answers are punished by the community. Baidu Baike entries are encyclopaedic, strictly neutral and cited — not a marketing surface at all. Baijiahao posts sit closest to news writing and feed Baidu discovery.

Name the destination platform in the brief, and expect the writer to change the shape of the piece rather than reformat one article five ways. If you are also building Baidu visibility, pair the writing with China SEO services and China backlinks.

4. Tone, Formality and the Small Signals of a Non-Native Writer

Chinese business copy is generally more formal than contemporary English marketing, but the register varies sharply by platform: a tone that reads as warm and professional in a WeChat article reads as stiff and corporate on Xiaohongshu. Decide whether you address the reader with the neutral 你 or the respectful 您 and hold it consistently, because mixing the two mid-page is one of the first things a Chinese reader notices.

Other tells are mechanical, and they are the ones you can check yourself. Chinese uses full-width punctuation — a Western comma or full stop dropped into a Chinese sentence looks broken. Numbers, units and Latin brand names need a consistent spacing convention. Product names, feature names and interface labels need a glossary agreed up front, or three writers will invent three renderings across your site. Build it on the first project and reuse it, so a multi-writer Chinese website content programme still reads as one brand.

5. Characters, Not Words: How Chinese Writing Is Priced

English is quoted per word. Chinese is quoted per character, and the two do not map one to one. As a planning figure, 1,000 English words becomes roughly 1,500 to 2,000 Chinese characters, and 1,000 Chinese characters comes back as roughly 550 to 700 English words.

That gap is where budget disputes start. Before you order, confirm in writing whether the quote counts source English words or target Chinese characters, whether punctuation and spaces are included, and whether revisions are billed separately. Agree too what happens to numbers, code samples and repeated boilerplate, which inflate a naive count. Every price on Zinn Hub is shown in USD, and short pieces are often listed as Micro Zinns — fixed-price services between $5 and $20 — an inexpensive way to test a writer first.

6. How to Quality-Check Copy You Cannot Read

Most buyers skip this, and it is what protects the brand. Three checks together catch nearly everything.

Back-translation. Commission a second writer, who has never seen your English source, to translate the Chinese back into English. Compare meaning, claims and tone — not wording. Back-translations always read awkwardly, so a clumsy sentence is not a fault; a changed claim or a reversed emphasis is. Use a separate Chinese to English Zinner so the two are genuinely independent.

An independent native reviewer. Ask a second native speaker to score fluency, platform tone fit, factual accuracy and terminology consistency, and to mark anything that sounds translated. Give them the glossary. A short proofreading and editing pass costs a fraction of the writing.

Artefact screening. Without reading Chinese you can still spot English word order preserved verbatim, idioms rendered literally, Simplified and Traditional characters mixed in one document, Western instead of full-width punctuation, and brand terms left inconsistently in Latin script. Ask directly whether machine translation was used and how — as a first-draft tool under full native rewriting it is a normal workflow; shipped raw it is not.

Getting Started on Zinn Hub

Start narrow. Pick one page or one platform post, brief the variant and the format, and order a short paid sample from two or three verified Zinners. Add the back-translation and native review to that first project so you learn your own quality bar before scaling. Then build the glossary and expand across localisation, product descriptions and ongoing platform content. Browse the content writing marketplace and the translation marketplace.

Sıkça Sorulan Sorular

Common questions about commissioning Chinese copy.

Simplified Chinese is standard for mainland China and Singapore. Traditional Chinese is standard for Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau. The difference is not only the character set: vocabulary and product terminology differ too, so a straight character conversion still reads as foreign. If you need both, brief each version separately rather than converting one into the other.

Translation carries the meaning of your English source across. Transcreation rewrites the idea from a creative brief so that headlines, humour and calls to action work natively in Chinese. Manuals, policies and specifications should be translated. Slogans, ads, landing pages, social captions and brand stories should be transcreated, or they read stiff and obviously imported.

Chinese is normally priced per character, while English is priced per word. As a planning figure, 1,000 English words becomes roughly 1,500 to 2,000 Chinese characters. Always confirm in writing whether a quote counts source words or target characters, and whether spaces and punctuation are included, before you agree a price.

The main formats are WeChat official account articles, Xiaohongshu notes, Zhihu answers, Baidu Baike entries and Baijiahao posts. WeChat articles are long and image led; Xiaohongshu notes are short, first person and lifestyle framed; Zhihu answers expect evidence; Baidu Baike is strictly neutral and cited; Baijiahao is news style. Name the destination platform before the writer starts.

Use three checks together. Commission a back-translation from a second writer who has not seen your English source, and compare meaning rather than wording. Have an independent native reviewer rate fluency, tone and factual accuracy. Then look for machine-translation artefacts such as English word order, literal idioms, mixed Simplified and Traditional characters, and Western instead of full-width punctuation.

Yes. Zinners offering Chinese writing are ID and skill verified before their listings go live, and the reviews you see come only from confirmed purchases. Read past work samples, check the declared language pair, and message them with a short paid sample brief before a full project.
